Binance Labs Rebrands to YZi Labs with CZ Leading the Way
A New Era: Binance Labs Becomes YZi Labs
Changpeng Zhao (CZ) is transforming Binance Labs, the venture capital and incubator arm of Binance Holdings, into a family office with a fresh identity.
On January 23, Binance Labs officially rebranded as YZi Labs. Along with the name change, a new leadership team was introduced, led by CZ—Binance’s former CEO and founder.
Leadership & Strategic Expansion
YZi Labs will be co-led by CZ and Ella Zhang, who originally co-founded Binance Labs in 2018. During her tenure, Zhang helped incubate top crypto projects like Polygon, Injective, Dune Analytics, Certik, and SafePal—all of which have become major industry players.
Beyond Crypto: Investing in the Future 🔬🤖
YZi Labs will expand beyond blockchain and cryptocurrency, venturing into biotechnology, Web3, and artificial intelligence (AI).
📢 “Changing our name to YZi Labs represents a broader vision as we extend our reach to game-changing industries like biotech and AI,” CZ stated.
CZ’s Transition & Focus on Impact 🌍
In 2023, CZ stepped down as Binance CEO after settling with U.S. authorities, later receiving a four-month prison sentence in the United States.
Since then, Binance has distanced itself from its VC arm, signaling a new direction for YZi Labs. CZ has emphasized a shift towards “impact” investments over financial returns, revealing plans for Giggle Academy, an educational initiative.
Supporting Startups & Incubation 📈
Under YZi Labs, CZ aims to revamp the venture capital unit, enhancing its incubation program with residency programs for startup founders. The company will also continue supporting its 250+ active projects, fostering innovation in emerging industries.
🚀 With its new identity and broader investment vision, YZi Labs is set to redefine the future of tech and blockchain investments.
